Welcome to my blog where I share my love for travel with my personal travel notes, city guides, notable food-drink stops, road stories and “I wish I should have known this before” type of advice.
I travel not the cheapest nor the most luxurious way, my travel style is “doing what should be done” to really experience a new place, so no wonder you can spot me one day at a 5 star hotel in Las Vegas and next day backpacking in a cheap bus 🙂 I do my research well before my trips and except for a weakness for shoes my mom and my friends think I’m ok. And I work in IT whenever I am not your “gezi elciniz” so that’s where the money comes for my travels 🙂
I have participated in photo exhibitions along with famous Turkish photographers such as Ara Güler, Coşkun Aral, İbrahim Zaman, İzzet Keribar, Orhan Kural, Nasuh Mahruki and also supported a travel stories book in Turkish made by contributions of many known travel writers. Also sometimes I become a guest for radio showes when I am in Istanbul!
I was a board member of Turkey’s Travellers Club (2016-2017, and after moving to a foreign country I resigned from this position). I used to live 10 years in my dearest İstanbul, and I am currently living in Munich. Though events, presentations and talks continue both in Munich and Istanbul now.
I am one of those types who plans the enxt trip before completing the current one, I love travelling and seeing new places so I hope I can spread some of the travel love to you as well!
PS: “gezielciniz” means “your travel ambassador”, it is a pun on my Turkish name.I can try to explain but believe me unless you know Turkish it will be boring so just believe me when I say it is a good pun in Turkish 🙂
But for those extra curious ones here is extra info:
My name in Turkish is Elçin. Normally on its own it is clear that it is a person name. Funny thing about Turkish is it is a language where you can add suffixes to the end of a word to turn it into something completely different. We use suffixes to the end of the word to indicate, ownership (mine, yours, hers/his..), tenses (present, past, future..), to make an adjective noun etc etc..
Elçi alone without ”n” means ambassador and ”-n” can be used to indicate ownership as ”yours” when added to a word in Turkish. So with this you can actually interpret Elçin as ”your ambassador” and ‘-iz” is a suffix we use to indicate formal talk or just you in plural.
Bare with me, explanation almost over 🙂
So ”’gezi” means travel in Turkish. now put together all of it ”gezi elciniz” –> ”travel ambassador (yours)”.
In my defense I didn’t force you to read the explanation of the pun :p and yes I still claim it is better in Turkish, puns are just terrible if you try to explain it!
