Have you heard Malta’s famous Gozo Island Azure Window collapsed and sinked into sea on 8th March 2017 after a heavy storm 😔
I was there 2 years ago and it is just sad that such a natural beauty got lost and all we have left is #throwback versions of it! It was a very touristic place located in Gozo island of Malta also known as one of the popular series Game of Thrones shooting places as well as couple of popular films such as Clash of the Titans (1981 ) ve The Count of Monte Cristo (2002).
Azure Window is (or should I say was at this point!) a 28 meter (92 ft) tall natural arch of rock. Since surrounding area was also interesting natural features and formations, combined with successful international TV/movie appearances it was one of the most touristic places in Malta.
The formation itself were thought to be created by a collapse of a sea cave in 19th century. Actually I later learned that in 2012 some part of Azure Window collapsed into see as well. But as you can see from before and after photos shot below, on 8th March 2017.

When I was visiting Malta, which is famous for summer tourism, casinos, beautiful door and window ornaments and English schools!, frankly I enjoyed Gozo Island more than Malta itself! And Azure Window was the true landmark of Gozo Island’s beauty.
It is strange feeling to know it is gone now forever. And it reminds me how importan wouldn’t be able to see it before Azure Window collapsed ) Of course this directly increased number of my travel plans so not so good reminder for my budget but anyway it is indeed a strong reminder.
And at this point in the article, with my comments trying to have a life lesson out of it, I think only way to end it is to have a reference to well know saying in travel world “We should go to Cuba this year before it gets effected more from capitalism”.
